Lesson Five: Goblin Rebellions
Between 1000AD and 1500AD, there were many more Goblin rebellions, but only a few greatly impacted the wizarding world. We are only going to cover one this term, which began in 1154. As wizarding power began to slowly develop, so did goblin. Soon, the two separate government systems were becoming entwined, forcing the two opposing forces to form a civilized culture. This of course caused problems, as the goblins, who are prideful creatures, were forced below the house elves, which were slowly becoming popular, in social class. Thus, slowly began a goblin reform movement. At first, the movement was not popular with the wizards, very few of which actually helped out. Even though the wizards and goblins governments were no longer separate, the wizards had much more power. They quickly outlawed goblin reform protests of any sort, with punishments anywhere from a small fine to death. Slowly, the protests became more and more physical, until a civil war broke out.
The two groups split, each researching new and easy ways to kill the other. The wizards came up with Avada Kedavra, while the goblins created their own powerful curses. There were thousands of casualties during this war, most of which did not result directly from the war. Since everyone was caught up in the battles and ground on both sides was being decimated, most forgot about the production of raw materials. Orphaned children without the ability to transfigure things into food and shelter starved to death, while widows had a difficult time providing for children. Finally, the governments came to a compromise. Both groups had advanced far in technology, and later when they were again combined led to a prospering society.
After this, the two groups combined again. The goblins' social class was still incredibly low, but they complained less about their treatment thanks to a little thing called mind control potion. Two or three goblins drank it, and they helped to hold back the rest of them. Soon all was peaceful between the wizards and the goblins. Their advances in spell-casting and potions were amazing, and this group was slowly gaining power in the world of magic. They were the main supplier of most wizarding goods, and soon the richest wizarding community in the world. They stayed this way for quite a long time, and even today we have the same basic community setup.
